IFP Short Film Review - Thanthooni Thuruthu

IFP Short Film Review- Thanthooni         Thuruthu

Few directors have an in depth story telling which sometimes consists of a penetrating point of view. Decent storyline are extremely challenging in terms of execution. Indeed, it takes a lot to reach out to the hearts of people through your stories. So Behold for the budding Filmmakers Mr. Abed Paul and Thejus Joseph who hail from the City of Gardens, Bengaluru. They have emerged victoriously in IFP(Indian Film Project) 2019 by bagging the title of " Gold film of the year " with their Malayalam short film named "Thanthooni Thuruthu"(Nobody's Island)
The opening scene of the film is a Drone shot which captures the entire scenic beauty of the Island with the fading in of the movie name. In Frame, a young guy who is heading to his dream journey recollects his past childhood days. The movie is voiceovered by Cyriac Joseph who is himself as the Main lead. His voice has a soothing texture which startles the senses every time you hear it. There's so much depth to every word he says that it certainly evokes epiphany within your mind. The hero is being thoughtful and thankful towards two people while drowning in his mezmerizing journey.
One is his father and second is Tara who is a childhood friend of him. Tara has a very inquisitive nature of always asking to his father about the world across this Island. No doubt, it is an extremely curious sensation for a person who resides on an Island for years without knowing the places beyond this.
Tara wishes to go to the theatre cinema for which she asks to her father to take there. Sadly, Tara's father overlooks the sparkling aspiration lingering in her eyes. Then the hero gives her few coins so that she could travel via boat to go across. However, Tara gets beaten by her father for her innocently brave deed.
The hero pours his heart while saying that few memories will never fade away as they are truly vivid; we perceive them and crave more to live them. Tara reaches an age where she is getting married now and simultaneously the hero is on his journey which was Tara's dream, her burning desire to go across this island. Tara has an intense passion within that small island which the hero could see through her sharply.
The transition between the past and present is executed pretty well. Especially, the scene when he says that Tara taught her to repair the cycle chain and parallely he repairs his car. When he receives coins, he then recollects his past wherein he gave Tara few coins to travel on boat. The background score is tremendously tranquil yet gives goosebumps to a good listener. The visuals of the island is like an oasis of serenity admidst the bustling urbanism. The hero has nothing to know whether there's anything for which he should go back to the island, because this journey is captivating him to chase his dreams again, again and again.
I bow down to thee creators of this Short film, a young talented group "Twenty second society" who in short span of 50 hours filmed a great thought which beautifully connects to everyone. Even though we chase for money, fame and other worldly possessions, somewhere down the line we feel to discover our Reason to our Road, am I right?
